What can you say about turkey?? It's the staple of Thanksgiving. For several years my husband and I would have turkey at both Thanksgiving and Christmas. But after a few years we got tired of that. So we decided to have turkey at Thanksgiving and ham for Christmas. We really like doing it this way as we don't get tired of either turkey or ham during the holidays.
When it comes to purchasing a turkey there are many different kinds to choose from. Butterball is my favorite, but it also has alot of fat in it because, after all, it IS a Butterball turkey!! Each store is different and will sell different brands of turkey. Choose whatever you like and with a price you like too. This year I went to Safeway to get my turkey. They have a special on turkeys each year, depending on how much you spend.
If you spend $150.00 then you get a free turkey.
If you spend $100.00 you get your turkey for 39 cents per pound.
If you spend $50.00 you get your turkey for 59 cents per pound.
If you don't belong to the Safeway Club you get your turkey for market price. My turkey would normally have cost around $26.00.
I got my turkey for 39 cents per pound sinced I spent over $100.00. I spent the money on my regular grocery shopping plus Thanksgiving items I would've bought anyway. I love figuring out how much I'm going to spend anyway around Thanksgiving then figuring my turkey price into it. My final price on the turkey I bought was $8.03 for a 21 pound bird. Not bad, huh??
Now, Thanksgiving isn't all about the money you spend to prepare a bountiful meal. It's about the thanks we give, each year, for our families, our jobs,
